McLaren GT in PUBG: A Grand Touring Revolution That Still Thrills
The McLaren GT in PUBG brought supercar skins, Workshop customization, and elite vehicle effects to the battlegrounds.
I still remember the first time I saw a McLaren GT roll into the lobby of PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS. It was 2022, and the world was a different place, but that sleek British grand tourer made an entrance that felt timeless. Even now, in 2026, as I drop into Erangel or Miramar, I sometimes catch myself wishing for that special container to spawn again. You know what? That collaboration was a game-changer—literally.
Born in Surrey, England, the McLaren GT isn't just any supercar. It's the lightest and quickest-accelerating grand tourer from McLaren Automotive, and PUBG brought it to life with incredible attention to detail. Behind the passenger seat, a 4-liter V8 turbocharged engine delivers a symphony of power. With a dry weight of just over 1,400 kg, this beauty is a joy to drive. It's a supercar for everyday drivers—and in the battlegrounds, it felt like cheating in the best way possible.

But the real magic happened in the Workshop. I could configure my one-and-only GT to be the center of attention. Eleven stunning exterior colors, two sleek wheelsets, and five different brake caliper colors on those state-of-the-art carbon ceramic brakes. I spent hours tweaking every detail. Honestly, who needs therapy when you can paint a virtual supercar? 😎
Then came the vehicle skin system overhaul. PUBG introduced two new categories: Basic Skins and Special Skins. You could equip one of each in-game. The keybinds changed too—on PC, pressing F lets you use the vehicle without a skin, while H equips your chosen skin. On console, it's X or LB+X for Xbox/Stadia, and ▢ or L1+▢ for PlayStation. I had to remap my controls, but it was worth it.
Equipping a skin triggered a special effect. The vehicle would glow or shimmer, but it canceled if the car moved, a player got in, you walked too far away, the vehicle took damage (even a tire), or another player selected a different skin. If canceled, the car reverted to its original look, and any damage stayed. It was a delicate dance—one wrong move and your fancy ride turned back into a pumpkin. 🎃
The Roadster Motorcycle was removed from world spawns, and its El Solitario Desert Wolves skin became a Special Skin. That was a bittersweet change for us bikers.
McLaren skins were purchasable as Special Skins. The McLaren GT Elite trim was the crown jewel. You could choose premium paint, tune wheels and brake calipers, select a premium interior, and even show off butterfly doors in the lobby (Lobby → Survivor Base → Edit Lobby). When you hit the boost, the variable exhaust valve opened up, giving you a stunning exhaust note that made my speakers rumble. It was pure music. 🎵

The McLaren Container was a brilliant touch. It spawned at the starting point of Erangel, Miramar, Taego, Sanhok, Vikendi, and Deston. If you owned a McLaren skin, you could interact with it, and a vehicle with the skin equipped would appear. Only you and your teammates could ride it. You could interact until you boarded the plane, and then the container and car vanished once the match started. These containers were available for three months. I remember racing my squad to the container, yelling 'Shotgun!' just to be the one to open it. 😂
Available modes included Normal Matches, Ranked, Casual Mode, and Custom Matches—but not Custom Match – Esports Mode. That made sense for competitive integrity.
The Crafter Pass: McLaren and McLaren Loot Cache bundle items were sold until November 2, 2022. The sales period for PC was September 6 to November 1, and for console September 15 to November 9. Daily, weekly, season, and achievement missions rewarded McLaren Tokens, which you could use to craft McLaren items. Bonus rewards from level 50 onward gave tokens too. But those tokens expired—PC: November 7 UTC, Console: November 14 PST. I learned that the hard way when I forgot to spend mine. Oops. 😅

Due to legal issues, the Premium Crafter Pass wasn't available in the Netherlands and Belgium. The pass was shown, but you couldn't purchase it or its items there. A preview feature let you see the McLaren skin and all loot items before buying, and you could check token validity in the store preview. That was a nice consumer-friendly touch.

The celebration event had daily missions where you collected points and exchanged them for rewards. On PC, it ran from September 7 to September 19, 2022; on console, September 15 to September 27. I grinded those missions like a man possessed. The rewards were worth it.
Now, in 2026, that McLaren GT event is a fond memory. The containers are long gone, and the tokens expired years ago. But the thrill of driving that British masterpiece across the battlegrounds? That stays with me. It turns out you can have it all. Make your GT today—well, if you could go back in time. But hey, a gamer can dream. 🏁
